Organisation Profile
Portsmouth’s Play Youth and Community (PYC) Service is part of Portsmouth City Council’s Housing, Neighbourhood and Buildings Directorate. We commit to supporting children, young people, and families across the city through inclusive, open-access services.
We manage a wide range of community-based services, including: 6 adventure playgrounds, 5 youth clubs (2 additional projects), 4 community centres. Our spaces support children from early years to adulthood. They provide safe, welcoming environments promoting mental health and wellbeing, informal learning, personal growth, social connection and community engagement. Our staff are trained in safeguarding, restorative practice, and family support, ensuring a high standard of care and professionalism. We deliver workshops on key issues affecting young people, including domestic abuse, healthy relationships, knife crime, exploitation, and healthy eating. These sessions help reduce anti-social behaviour, lower risks of harm, and improve life chances. Our adventure playgrounds are rooted in the principle of freely chosen play. These spaces allow children to explore, create, and grow in a safe and stimulating environment.
Our youth clubs offer young people a space to explore their identity, build confidence and decision-making skills, develop interpersonal relationships, and reflect on their choices and actions. This leads to more informed decisions and better outcomes.
