Using Turnitin Draft Coach
Turnitin Draft Coach is a writing support tool available in Microsoft Word. It gives you useful feedback while you are working on an assignment, helping you review your draft and make improvements before submitting your final version.
Draft Coach is designed to support your own judgement rather than change your work for you. Using it does not submit your draft to the Turnitin repository.

What can Draft Coach help with?
Check for similarity
Compare your draft with other sources and review any matching text. This can help you identify where you may need to rewrite something, use a quotation or include a reference.
Review your citations
Check how sources have been cited within your work and identify references that may be missing or need further attention.
Check your grammar
Find possible grammar issues and view suggestions to help you improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
Add Draft Coach to Word online
You only need to add Draft Coach the first time you use it. Follow the steps below in Microsoft Word online.
- Go to office.com and sign in with your University email address and password, for example [email protected].
- Select the app launcher (nine-squares), then choose Word.
- Open a blank document.
- From the Home tab, select Add-ins. You may need to select More options (...) at the end of the toolbar first.
- Search for Draft Coach, then select Add. Turnitin Draft Coach will appear on the Word menu bar.
- A panel will open on the right. Read the terms and conditions, select the checkbox, then select Continue to Draft Coach.
- Draft Coach will open in the side panel, ready for you to use its similarity, citation and grammar tools.
