Your Pure Profile

Showcase your Research and Expertise as a PGR

Pure is the University of Portsmouth's Current Research Information System (CRIS), which allows you to record information related to research, innovation and teaching activities. This information is then displayed on the public Portsmouth Research Portal.

All University of Portsmouth Postgraduate Research (PGR) students should be provided with access to Pure to allow you to create your Research Profile. You are strongly encouraged to update your Pure Profile to allow other researchers to find you, to help you set up your academic networks, and to disseminate your research.

You can edit and add to your profile by logging into Pure using your standard student login and password.

Unfortunately Pure is not available to those PGR students undertaking an MRes or those in the taught phase of the Professional Doctorate

A Pure profile for a PGR student usually includes:

  • Key profile information (biography, photograph);
  • A good summary description of your research project(s) suitable for a general audience;
  • A description of any research outputs, presentations or datasets you have produced;
  • Any activities you want to highlight, or even prizes you have been awarded (e.g. conference participation, winning best paper prize).

Tips for Creating your Pure Profile

Creating a professional profile as a PGR is important for showcasing your expertise, experience and accomplishments.

Here are 5 tips to help you create a Research Profile that stands out:

  1. As a general rule less is more on the OVERVIEW page of your profile. Think of this page as a shop window - it should encourage people to want to find out more about you and your research.
  2. Add a profile picture. Your profile picture should be professional and you should avoid using pictures with a ‘busy’ background.
  3. Write in the first person and use short sentences and short paragraphs - this improves online readability, particularly on mobile devices.
  4. Make sure to use keywords relevant to your area of expertise to help others find you in searches. Mention your general subject area, more specific areas of expertise, and any networks or groups you belong to.
  5. Add your publications! Once you have any publications or presentations to tell the world about, add them here, or even import them from an online source.

Make sure to keep your profile up-to-date and professional to make a lasting impression on those who visit it. A well-maintained profile can help you network with fellow researchers, connect with potential collaborators, and raise your visibility in your academic field.
