If you’re graduating this year you could be eligible for a bursary of up to £30,000 to train to teach at the University of Portsmouth.

The Department for Education is offering a Further Education (FE) Initial Teacher Education (ITE) pre-service bursaries programme for the 2024 to 2025 academic year. The application window is now open.

These bursaries support the training of FE teachers in high priority subject areas. ITE bursaries are available for the following subject areas:

  • Computing - £30,000
  • Engineering or manufacturing - £30,000
  • Mathematics - £30,000
  • Science, including biology, chemistry, or physics - £30,000
  • English (capped at 100 places) - £15,000
  • Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) - £15,000

Full details, including eligibility criteria and qualifying subjects are available in the bursaries funding manual, which together with the application form are now available online.

Teaching Taster Programme 2024

This free 3-day taster programme will enable you to gain the knowledge and experience to make the first steps into the teaching profession.

This programme is for students with an interest in any of the following PGCE subject areas (Primary, Secondary and/or FE teaching): Geography, Modern Foreign Language (MFL), English, Maths, and Sciences.

Teaching

Day 1: Monday 29th April, 09:30-12:30 - LF Block, Milldam Building

Day 2: Wednesday 5th June, 09:30-11:00 - Online

Placement

Your placement day will take place any time between the taught sessions.
