With the winter upon us, there’s no better time to share a hearty, filling Sunday roast with your friends or family. 

There’s a bit of prep work involved, but a home-made roast is a tasty and affordable option - and if you get all your housemates to get involved, it can be very easy.

But if you fancy eating out Southsea has lots of pubs and restaurants offering great roasts. Here are some of our favourites:

 


 

1 | Croxton’s

Offering craft beer and a quirky menu, this great pub in the heart of Southsea is worth checking out. The Sunday roast options include an 8-hour roasted pork belly or an olive puff pastry twist nut roast. Its reputation makes it a popular choice, so you’ll need to book in advance.

2 | King Street Tavern

A stone’s throw from the Eldon building, the King Street Tavern is a hidden gem tucked down some residential streets. Their roasts are really tasty, and at this price point great value for money. Helpfully they offer different-sized roasts so that you can choose according to your appetite, and budget.

3 | Marmion House

A stylish, bistro-style restaurant, Marmion House offers a classy menu throughout the week. Their traditional Sunday roasts offer the usual options, and if you’re lucky to get a window seat, it’s a great place to watch the world go by.

4 | Florence Arms

Just off the seafront, this gastropub offers a range of traditional beers and food. Their Sunday menu includes the usual options, but also burger and pasta options if you fancy something different.

5 | Porters

Situated at the western end of Albert Road, Porters’ kitchen offers affordable roast options for everyone. The venue’s scrubbed wooden tables make for a no-nonsense, simple, yet quality dining experience. Choose from Braised lamb, chicken supreme or veggie or vegan nut roasts.

This traditional pub near Eastney beach is a local’s favourite offering tasty roasts at great prices, as well as a full menu of pub classics like scampi and pie and mash.
