Communication and Applied Linguistics MA – Your course starts here
Whether you're starting your Master's degree with us or returning after your first year, we're pleased to welcome you to the University. We hope you enjoyed the summer and are excited to get started.
Message from Dr Theresa Callan, Interim Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Welcome! We are delighted to see you in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
It's a rather different world than that which we knew but we all remain as passionate as ever about understanding it and together making it a better place.
I hope you have a productive and enjoyable academic year ahead - deepening your understanding about your subject area, catching up with your peers and tutors, and developing those skills which will prepare you for a successful career after your studies.
Meeting and working with other students
You'll meet other students through friendly forums within our virtual learning environment, Moodle. You'll find boards for each module you study, and for the course as a whole. We'll be holding a drop-in Q&A session in week 1 too.
Meet your lecturers
We're looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you to your first lecture. Below you'll find information of key lecturers who'll teach you during your first teaching block.
Welcome from Carmen Pasamar, interim Head of School
Welcome to the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics. Our reception is based on the first floor of Park Building, where one of the team will always be able to help you.
In Week One, you'll be assigned a Personal Tutor, who will guide you throughout your studies. You'll also meet your Course Leader, who will tell you more about your course and will be able to answer any questions you may have about your options. They'll also explain our blended learning approach, and will tell you about all the measures we have put in place to ensure your safety.
In addition, your lecturers will welcome you to your modules on Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment.
You'll have opportunities to learn more about the wide range of University services as well as other extra-curricular activities that will take place throughout the year such as the Language Corner or Global Cafe, and our Academic Enhancement Programme.
Your Personal Tutor will be supporting you throughout your studies, so don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you may have!
