Welcome to Portsmouth and the first year of your degree. You're joining a community of staff and students who are all here to support and encourage you, and we hope you're excited to start your new life at university.

Over the next few years, you'll delve into your chosen subject, make friends for life, and develop skills to prepare you for a successful career after your studies.

University arrangements for Monday 19 September

Induction activities on Monday 19 September have been rescheduled for the funeral of Her Majesty The Queen, which will now be a UK bank holiday.

We will email you to confirm that your timetable has been updated.

Accessing your online accounts

If your induction includes online activities, you'll need your student account details to access them. Your username will consist of 'UP' followed by your student ID number (for example, UP123456).

You’ll also need to log into Moodle to find all the details about your course. You’ll only have access to Moodle once you complete your registration with us.

9.30am - 12.00pm: Welcome and Meet and Greet

This session will be a chance to get to know more about the peers on your course. There will be a range of games and activities planned to support your transition into university study.

9.30am - 11.00am: Subject Knowledge Audit

An opportunity to identify your subject knowledge strengths and areas for development, in order to create a personal action plan.

9.30am - 11.00am: Subject Knowledge Audit

An opportunity to identify your subject knowledge strengths and areas for development, in order to create a personal action plan.

1.00pm - 2.00pm: Digital Portfolios

Using your Google Drive will be an important part of organising and maintaining course documentation. This session will give you guidance on how to set up and use it effectively.

3.00pm - 4.00pm: Library Induction

The library will be an integral part of your studies and this session will guide you to get the very best from it and show you exactly what it can offer you.

Friday 23 September 

2.00pm - 4.00pm: HSS Student Support Fair

This fair will introduce you to all the support on offer during your time studying with us to help you achieve your full potential. You’ll be able to meet our our student engagement officers, Faculty Librarians, Learning Development Tutors, our Placement Centre Faculty Careers Advisor, and more!

If one or some of your timetabled events has multiple venues or groups, your personal tutor will confirm where you need to go prior to induction week. Please also check your course Moodle page for further information.

International and EU students

If you're joining us from overseas, find out about our International Orientation events and what you need to do during your first weeks.

You'll need to join us in Portsmouth for the start of course. Information about registering, collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP card) and ID checks for the new academic year will be sent to you by email.
