What is Grackle Docs?

Grackle Docs is an add-on to Google Documents that allows you to check a Google document for accessibility issues. It checks against the document’s elements in 6 categories.

  • Document
  • Images
  • Headings
  • Tables
  • Landmarks
  • Content

How is Grackle Accessed?

From within your Google Document, select the Add-Ons menu then Grackle Docs and Launch.

Privacy

As with all add-ons and third party Google Chrome extensions Grackle asks permission to ‘see, edit, create and delete all of your Google Drive files.’ This sounds alarming but it is required by developers to add their applications to Google Drive. This is far more access than Grackle needs and it will never delete a file from your drive. Grackle only writes output created by Grackle and will only read files specifically checked by you against the accessibility checker.

Grackle won’t access your GoogleDrive without your permission - you allow access by launching the app and submitting a file(s) for accessibility checking.

After 3 days of inactivity, Grackle will timeout and cease to have access to your GoogleDrive until you decide to relaunch the app at some later time.

See the full Grackle Privacy Policy.
