Cisco Webex can be used for conference audio/video calls. You can schedule meetings ahead of time and start meetings straight away with the use of a number of different features. To log in to Webex:

Please note: Standard University Laptops (Acer Travelmate) have a microphone and webcam included. A non-standard or personal device may not include these features. USB webcams and microphones may be required.

COVID-19 advice

Demand for conferencing capability has been growing exponentially over the past few weeks with peak demand for Webex reaching a staggering 24 times the pre-pandemic normal. This has caused considerable strain on all conferencing platforms. Cisco has been increasing capacity over recent weeks.

Our current advice for scheduling Webex meetings is:

  • Try to spread your meeting start times away from the popular hour and half-hour slots. This will avoid the inevitable log-jam as hundreds of thousands of users attempt to join their meetings at the same time.
  • Holding meetings first thing in the morning is a common requirement, and this time experiences considerably higher demand than at any other time of the day. Simply delaying a start time to 9.40am will help your meeting run more smoothly.
  • You should expect around 24-48 hours for recordings to appear in the Recordings Folder.

Webex online

You can manage your meetings and settings at https://uop.webex.com. When joining, or hosting a meeting, the installed Webex program will open automatically. Your browser may ask you to confirm that it is allowed to open. Please accept this request.

  • Go to https://uop.webex.com.
  • Select Sign in (top right) and enter your university username and password.

  1. From the Start menu, choose Microsoft Endpoint Manager then Software Cente.

  2. Choose the Applications option from the left-hand menu.Webex Meetings should appear in the available
    applications. Select this option.

  3. Select the Install button.

  1. When you visit uop.webex.com, there is an option to download the Webex desktop app on the page. You will also be prompted to install the desktop app when starting, or joining, a meeting if you have not installed it previously. Open the download to begin installation.

  2. Once installed Webex Meetings will appear in your Start Menu. Select it to open.

  3. You will be asked to provide your email address. Enter your staff email address and click Next.

  4. You will be asked to Enter your site URL. Enter: uop.webex.com and click Next.

  1. When you visit uop.webex.com, there is an option to download the Webex desktop app on the page. You will also be prompted to install the desktop app when starting, or joining, a meeting if you have not installed it previously.

  2. Once installed, you will see Cisco Webex Meetings as a program in your Applications folder. This will open automatically when you start or join a meeting from the uop.webex.com website.
