You can connect to eduroam at any other participating locations - it is a good idea to get connected on campus first, but it is not necessary.


Students and staff visiting other institutions with your own device

University of Portsmouth staff and students should use the instructions from the wireless connection guide article to connect to eduroam before visiting another institution - you must use the suffix on your username otherwise the connection will fail. Please note that these instructions are for reference only and some information may vary depending your wireless card model/driver version and software update.


Staff using University Windows 10 laptops

Staff using Windows 10 laptops will need to log into their laptop with the suffix after their username to connect to an eduroam connection off-site.

You can sign in with on campus or at any location where an eduroam wireless connection is available. Adding the suffix will still use your normal account so all of your files and folders will be available. You can log in on campus with or without the the full username as both options will work. To do this:

  1. If you are not at the log in screen, log out.
  2. Log in with your (not as this will not work), e.g.
  3. eduroam should connect.

If eduroam does not connect, you will need to contact the Service Desk with the following information:

  • Username
  • Location and time of attempted connection
  • Whether other devices connect e.g. your phone
  • Your laptop make and model
