How to complete registration processes for new International/EU students
In order to commence your studies with us, you will be required to register onto your course, which involves two separate steps:
- Check and complete the online registration form
- Complete a valid identity (ID) check
You should complete step one as soon as you receive an email advising you to do so. The ID check will take place within three weeks of the start date of your course.;
Please log in to your student portal to complete the online registration form here. Please check the details we currently hold for you and add any missing information. You will also be required to upload a photo to complete the process. This should be a passport sized photo of yourself, clearly showing your face, and containing no other objects or people.

The purpose of the ID check is to reinforce confirmation of your intention to study at the University of Portsmouth. It is an important stage in Registering as it enables us to confirm who you are on behalf of the University to organisations such as the UKVI and some banks.
When you’ve completed Step 1 you will receive an email with instructions on how to book a slot for your ID check.
The ID check will take place on-campus, no earlier than 1 week before your course start date. You will need to bring:
- Your passport, which should include your stamped entry clearance vignette - Your Home Office decision letter - Your BRP, if you are collecting it from the Post Office
Receiving your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
You need a biometric residence permit (BRP) when you apply to stay in the UK for more than 6 months. You don't need to apply for a BRP as well as your visa - you'll get one automatically once your visa application is approved.
You can use your BRP to confirm your identity, your right to study in the UK, and your right to any public services or benefits.
Your BRP will be issued to you at your ID check session if you have chosen to collect from the University as opposed to the Post office.
How to apply for a student card
Please go to www.port.ac.uk/studentcard and log in using your University username and password.
Your student card will allow you to access university buildings, the Library, student services and it will also be used for attendance monitoring. Please upload a passport sized (and quality) photo of yourself, clearly showing your face, and containing no other objects or people. On successful upload, you will receive a message on screen (not an email) confirming this.
It's very important for you to upload your photo prior to the start of term, as social distancing measures prevent us from taking your photo on campus. Find out more information about student cards.
Please note, even if you have already completed your online registration, you will still need to apply for your student card. This is a separate photo upload process to that included in the online registration form, however, you can use the same photo.
Your student card will be issued to you upon completion of your full course registration as outlined in steps 1 and 2 above.
Travelling to the UK

Where to send your Qualifications
If you didn't submit your course entry qualification check when applying to the University, please upload copies of relevant qualification documentation to your Applicant View. If you're unsure which qualifications are required, you can contact the admissions team directly through the Applicant View.
