This article will explain the process of applying for a Self-Employment Placement and how the Student StartUp Team can support you in this. Student StartUp is the University of Portsmouth’s Student Enterprise Team.
If you are interested in starting your own business or freelancing, the University of Portsmouth offers an option to undertake a Self-Employment Placement (SEP).
A Self-Employment Placement (SEP) may be undertaken by certain students currently studying at the University of Portsmouth. This will normally take place following the second year of studies and, where appropriate, replaces the traditional placement year in industry.
The aim of the SEP is to encourage the development of enterprise skills whilst starting-up and running a business, or social enterprise, or being self-employed during the placement year.
The self-employment placement assesses the development of certain skills which have been identified by the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education (NCEE). Evidence to demonstrate these skills will be collated on an on-going basis throughout the year and will be reviewed at the regular monitoring and development meetings.
