This article will give you information on what the Maths Café is.

The Maths Café provides free help, support and advice with Mathematics and Statistics-related issues to all students at the University of Portsmouth. It is there to support students with developing their maths skills. Whether you are looking to brush up on a particular topic, learn more about a mathematical concept of interest, or revise a recent lecture - you can come as often as you like. Maths Café tutors will always do their best to help you with your mathematical issue, whatever your course of study.

Maths Café runs drop-in sessions, workshops, provide online resources and more.

  • Drop-in sessions are the main activity: they run on a daily basis throughout term-time and also in the run-up to the exams. No need to make an appointment - just turn up. To help the tutors support you effectively, please bring your notes or any other materials that are associated with your query.
  • Workshops focus on selected topics. Explanations are followed by plenty of exercises and tutors are on hand throughout to work with you through the material.
  • The Maths Café Moodle page contains online resources covering a wide range of topics. These resources provide explanations and worked examples, and can be accessed at any time.
  • Maths Café also has games and puzzles that are entertaining but also stretch our mathematical, logical and strategical thinking skills. Ask for more information in our Lion Gate location, and solve our weekly puzzles with your friends on Facebook.
  • We let you know when free online courses are available - follow our Facebook page to receive updates instantly.
