Marketing yourself as an international student for the UK graduate job market

Are you an international student interested in working in the UK after your studies? This session will outline the key things you need to know regarding post-study visa options. You will also learn about how to market yourself as an international student within the UK jobs market and key strategies to achieve success.


What to do when you can't find a job advert

10am - 10.45am

Did you know that the majority of jobs are not advertised, with some research suggesting that 70% of vacancies are not publicly advertised?
This 30-minute session will give you tips for finding these hidden jobs, through a range of techniques such as using speculative applications and using networking approaches. The session will also explore techniques for broadening your job search to find a wider range of jobs than you might otherwise have seen.


Want to work for yourself, do some freelancing or build a portfolio - but not sure where or how to start? Top tips

10.30am - 11.15am

This should come as no surprise - the traditional 9–5 office employment model is not as popular as it once was and even before COVID-19 flexible business options like freelancing were exploding in popularity.

If like many people right now, you’re thinking of ways to make money online, freelancing might seem like a logical step. You can do it safely from home, it will generate income, and so on. But there are a few things to consider before diving headfirst into freelancing, even if only temporarily.

Why not join us to hear some top tips on how to start working for yourself and other opportunities available to you?

Want to find out more about how you can build your professional experience all whilst helping others? Spend 30 minutes of your day with the Volunteering Team and hear about the many benefits of volunteering, the projects available and how you can get involved in doing good and feeling good!


Alumni Panel Session ‘My Journey and how the Careers and Employability Service helped me'

12pm - 12.45pm

Trying to navigate the graduate recruitment process? Unsure of what the next step is? This session will give you the opportunity to hear from Portsmouth alumni about the steps they took to success, the challenges they faced and how the Careers and Employability Service supported them.

1.15pm - 2pm

Tim Campbell will talk about his career to date, the lessons he has learnt and how they may be of use to students in their next steps after University.

Tim Campbell spoke at the Chancellor’ s Event for Students - he was Season 1 winner of The Apprentice and has become a champion of inclusion.  With a focus on Education, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, he has established a ground-breaking charitable foundation and is Regional Head of Africa and Trading Futures lead for, OSTC Group.


Application Advice with BAE Systems

2pm - 2.45pm

This session will guide and advise potential applicants through the BAE Systems online application process. Hints and tips for success will be provided throughout, and there will be time for questions and answers. This session will also be broadly pertinent to anyone interested in improving their general graduate role application skills for any major global employer.


Meet the employer - Santander

2.45pm - 3.30pm

Come along to Santander’s online webinar where they’ll be sharing their top tips on how to best present yourself, why personal branding is important and your digital footprint. You’’ have the chance to ask questions and hear from current employees on their experiences and roles in the bank. Helpful for anyone looking for a role in any organisation.
