School of Biological Sciences Annual Postgraduate Research Conference

The School of Biological Sciences recently hosted their annual postgraduate research conference organised by a dedicated student committee.

The event showcased a wide array of research, from biochemistry to marine biology, through posters, flash talks and oral presentations.

Beyond the academic presentations, students also had the opportunity to network and share experiences of their postgraduate journey. The conference highlighted the school's diverse research landscape, spanning topics from modelling neurodevelopmental disorders in frogs to designing novel enzymes for the biodegradation of LEGO plastics. From the de novo design of artificial dye-binding proteins, to integrating environmental monitoring in marine sports.

In acknowledgement of outstanding contributions, recognition was granted to the following presenters: Alex Cahil was awarded for the best poster, Alice Blythe for the best flash talk and Joshua Osbourne was awarded the best oral presentation.

Overall, it was a successful celebration of the research culture within the School of Biological Sciences.
